Our story

──────────────────

Dr. Dana Decker began her journey to owning her own practice in Calgary by working,

and locuming in many different aspects of the veterinary field, in the northern and southern hemispheres. Not only had her schooling, to gain her Doctorate Veterinary Medicine degree

bring her to Perth, Australia to learn, it brought about her love of small and large animals.

Her career started on horse farms in Indiana, and in equine reproduction. She then became apart of a great team at a cardiology clinic in Florida, she locumed at emergency hospitals here in Alberta

and in primary care, in Florida, Colorado and Calgary.

Over the years working in these many different atmospheres she has come to learn that

every animal matters and that veterinary care can be trying and difficult on the pet and owner alike.

It was then that she decided, one day she would open her own clinic to help as many

small animals and people as she could.

Dana started this journey by opening a house call service based in Okotoks in 2019. She started her clientele from scratch by word of mouth. One visit from Dr. Dana and you, along with your pet would fall in love.  After 1 year she made the big decision that it was time to have her own full service animal clinic.

That was when Creature Comforts Animal Clinic began.

The clinic was completely designed by Dana with her current and future patients in mind.

With A fear free and open door approach it gives her the ability to make every pet feel safe and comfortable.  At her facility she has put forth her love of animals and the ability to treat them in many aspects of veterinary care. This include appointments, typical, fear free, surgery, radiology and even ultrasonography.  She also provides the most important and difficult service of all,

the end of life service.  We wish our furry friends could be with us forever in body,

but they will always be with us in spirit.

With all that in mind she created a surgery suite, a lead lined radiology suite, 3 treatment tables where dental procedures and surgical preparation can be preformed, a full pharmacy, 3 examination rooms for every size feline and canine friend, along with a “At Home Living room space” at the back of the clinic,

to accommodate every pet and client.  From the warm colour of the cabinetry to the soft

couch like seats in the examination rooms, she hoped everyone would feel like “home” when

they arrived at Creature Comforts Animal Clinic. Dana has put her heart and soul into

building this practice. Her clients mean the world to her. This all could not be possible without the amazing people and their pets that she met and helped along the way.

The Creature Comforts Team

Dana Decker, Veterinarian, Clinic Owner

Dr. Dana Decker was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She grew up working on horse farms and her adventures took her to Florida where she met her husband Bill. Together, they chose to make a huge life-change and moved to Australia when Dana was accepted into the veterinary program at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. After graduating in 2012 they packed up again and moved to Colorado, where Dana began working at a high volume commercial horse breeding facility as the on-site veterinarian. In 2014, Dana made the decision to switch to small animal medicine and has been loving it ever since. After living outside of Canada for 15 years, Dana and Bill decided to pack up their 3 dogs and 2 horses to move to Okotoks in order to be closer to family. They have a special love for “squishy faces” (bulldogs, etc) but adore all animals. They cannot wait to meet you and your pets and help you with your veterinary needs!

Bill Decker, Vet Assistant, Clinic Owner

Bill is origionally from Flordia, where he met Dana and started their journey together.   Bill has learned first hand what it is like working with animals from his very own wife.  First co-owning a House call service to moving up to opening their own animal clinic.  Bill enjoys time with his lovely wife Dr. Dana and 3 amazing puppers Rudy, Raven and the unforgetable bulldog Violet Ophelia.  Bill enjoys treating the staff with his wonderful cooking, and light and fun attitude.

She joined with Dr. Decker at the opening of Creature Comforts Animal Clinic in 2020.   She is very excited to continue her career as part of the quality veterinary team here.

Outside of the clinic, Angelica enjoys reading, cooking, watching scary movies and spending quality time with her family. Her family includes her beautiful 2 daughters Kadence, who you can see around the clinic from time to time, and her newest addition Scarlett Olivia, along with her wonderful fiancé Andrew, and a loving feline family member named Carl.

Ever since she was 8 years old, she had wanted to work with animals, having many different species of her own like turtles, fish, cats, and dogs. Over the years she has developed a soft spot for the geriatric pets that need a slower, gentler hand.

Amy is a mom of 2 goofy energic kids that keep her on her toes. In her downtime she perfers to be outside in the forest, learning about herbal medicine, another one of her passions or in a karate sparing ring, where she has her first Dan Black Belt in Goju Ryu Karate.

You’ll see Amy around the clinic greeting you and your furry family members or in surgery giving them the upmost care as if they were her own.
